A recent trip we made to the delightful coastal town of Looe highlighted not only how much fun a holiday there can be, but also how seriously the local residents take safety issues. One of the first things we checked out was a sample of the accommodation on offer. With many Looe bed and breakfast options available it took a little searching to find a worthy test site.

The Old Bridge House Hotel has received so many positive reviews from its guests that it was natural choice to select when visiting Looe. The interior of the hotel is homely, comfortable and very welcoming. Most importantly, it’s clean! The one thing most reviewers forget when making assessments is the general cleanliness of an establishment. The Old Bridge House Hotel passes with flying colours in this respect. The bedrooms are all immaculately kept and well presented and the en-suite facilities in each room need to be seen to be believed – it’s not often this reviewer has been able to see their face in a sink tap.

The couple who run The Old Bridge House have been doing so for many years and clearly enjoy the experience. Their passion is understandably translated into the best service we have commented on in years. Fire exits and safety procedures are clearly marked around the hotel without being intrusive, but still being easy to find and access. The food prepared for breakfast is all locally sourced and the ingredients clearly fresh from the market – this reviewer would recommend going for the full Cornish option. As an advert for accommodation in Looe, The Old Bridge House Hotel is one of the best.

This passionate culture of safely enjoying a holiday is reflected throughout the rest of the town as well. As Looe sits either side of a river that leads directly into the sea, there are ample ways for tourists to injure themselves when taking part in water sports or chartering boats. Water safety should never be underestimates and the residents of Looe make it their business to ensure that all visitors are well prepared and cared for when out on the water. The harbour has its own website and one of the first pages visitors land in is the safety precautions and checklists for those wishing to travel out to sea. A review of the checklist reveals that every eventuality has been looked at so that anyone foolish enough to ignore the safety procedures only has themselves to blame. Fortunately thanks to these precautions, and the town’s positive attitude to the health and safety of their visitors, there hasn’t been an accident in many years.

Overall, Looe is one tourist destination that is likely to become more and more popular in the coming year. This is best illustrated by the bookings The Old Bridge House Hotel has already taken for the spring holidays – they’re quickly filling up.

When preparing to visit Thailand from the United Kingdom, the travel advice recommends that both Typhoid and Hepatitis A vaccinations are taken, 10 days and 2 weeks prior to travel respectively. Which vaccinations to have often depends on what part of the country you are travelling to and what activities you may be undertaking whilst you are there. If you are going to stay in a hotel, look up accommodations that are located in crowded places or areas buzzing with activity.

One should absolutely avoid venturing out late in the night. Most untoward incidents happen during this time.

Always know everything about the place you will be travelling to like the back of your hand. Keep important phone numbers always handy with you. Always carry a map of the place. You don’t want to get lost in an unknown city. If the natives of the city speak a foreign language, it would be helpful if you can learn some basic words to communicate with them.

You can purchase travel insurance too before taking a vacation. There are many types of insurance schemes available in the market. You can choose one that serves your needs. For example, if you are taking a adventure vacation and you know that it will involve horse riding you can buy horse rider insurance. You can also check if the owner of the horse has purchased equine liability insurance. Although these are just examples, they will help you plan a safe trip.

Being safe does not mean going berserk. One just needs to pay attention to certain things and everything thing will fall into place.

The other thing to be wary of if you get out there is that you should try and get hold of an antibiotic and an antidiarrheal drug whilst you’re out there in case you get persistent symptoms of traveller’s diarrhoea. In most cases it won’t be serious and can be treated with a decent hydration but if on the off chance it becomes severe, lasts longer that a seventy two hour period, blood begins to appear in the stools or there is severe abdominal pain medical attention must be sought straight away.

Dentists cost up to ten times more privately in the UK then in many other parts of the world. With the difficulty in getting yourself registered with an NHS Dentist now, more and more people are looking privately at home and abroad for alternative options. A friend of mine recently had some work done on his teeth in Budapest privately for a fraction of the cost of treatment in England.

My friend had a fear of flying so he decided to drive to Budapest and make the trip a mini holiday. I went with him mainly because it had been ages since I had been on holiday. The first thing that struck me about Budapest was the number of hybrid cars on the roads. For a supposedly second tier European nation, Hungary seems to be ahead of the curve when it comes to fuel efficiency and environmental protection. Even the dentist my friend went to see owned a Honda which happened to be one of their new hybrid models.

It was the cost and quality of the treatment my friend had that amazed me the most though. Far from some dirty gulag in a dodgy alleyway, the dental surgery we were in was modern, clean and well organised. The work my friend had done (a porcelain crown on his front tooth) was efficient, quick and effective. The dentist told him he would never really have to worry about the tooth again but still gave him a five year guarantee on the work stating that if there were any problems it would be repaired or replaced for free and that the surgery would contribute to the air cost of coming over for the work.

A far cry from the care and quality we get in the UK.

A friend of mine was putting up a retail display outside is travel agency recently when we got to talking about health care and the fact that there is a sector of the tourism market called health tourism. i asked him why health tourism. He advised me that with health care being so costly in so many jurisdictions many people are seeking countries that offer quality health care at a reasonable price. Thailand is one such country he told me and the market is growing.

The Thai medical system is believed to be among the best in the world. The country over the years has invested vast amounts of capital into their hospitals and clinics in the form of well-trained doctors and other health professionals, medical equipment, and management. In fact, a number of their main hospitals have received international accreditation.

Research has shown that many surgeries in Thailand cost about one-tenth of what they do in the United Sates where most of the health tourist come from. In the US for instance a dental bridge would cost somewhere around $5000 whereas in Thailand the cost would be $500.

Apart from traditional medical offering Thailand also offer a wide range of health spas and health clubs, and has therefore become Asia spa capital.

What has happened in Thailand is that a number of tour packages offered by travel agent now off medical checkups as part of the package. Now once visitors visit the country for health purposes they can come back and enjoy this lovely country to recuperate.

Nepal is one of the most unique countries that I have ever been at. The moment you are out of the airport you are bombarded by guides and taxi drivers promising you the best and the cheapest option to stay. It’s so difficult to decide whom to go with and who is speaking the truth. I finally booked a hotel for a day with a guy that had a counter inside the airport premises. When we finally reached the hotel it was dark, and to our surprise there was no electricity. That’s when we found out that electricity is not available for 8 hours in a day. While going into our room I was already thinking that it was a huge mistake to come here and that the original plan of just spending some nice time in an ostelli barcellona next to the beach seemed so far away. Finally once we have got the luggage in the room we found out that the water in the tap was dirty and was colored brown. I just wanted to scream. Now for sure this was too much for me when I found out that someone had stolen some items from our bag. The perfect disastrous day!

Anyway since we were for the first time in Nepal, we somehow spent the night there and my plan was to look for another hotel nearby. Thankfully we found one nearby and this was quite bearable. Once we had moved out luggage, we went out for a walk. To our surprise we found a lot of tourist around the place. The place that we were living at is called Thamel. This place was like a small town with a lot of restaurants, bars and pubs. I was surprised to see so many restaurants with different cuisines. You can find here anything, starting from Korean, Italian, French, American, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese and of course Nepalese. By now I knew I was going to spend rest of my stay tasting all of these different cuisines. This is the perfect life that we are all aiming for, I felt like James Bond on a mission. All I need now is my Aston Martin driving experience. Thankfully everything is cheap here, so probably you will not blow your wallet off in Nepal!

To travel safely in Europe you need to have your wits about you. The vast, overwhelming majority of people you meet will be delightful. They’ll help you, they’ll talk to you, they’ll tell you what to avoid and what to try. They’ll explain how you’re using your bus ticket incorrectly and how to say please and thankyou without getting them mixed up.

On the other hand, you’re also likely to meet people who want to steal all your things and sell them, probably to buy illegal narcotics or life insurance ni. These people are few and far between, but meeting just one of them could be enough to ruin your travels around Europe.

In order to protect yourself and your possessions, you can take a few easy precautions which might go some way to prevent your things from being taken. Obviously, don’t parade your expensive electronic devices. Don’t wander around with your mobile phone in your hand, and don’t have your white iPod wires dangling out of your ears. Buy a decent padlock for your rucksack, or even invest in one of those chainmail cases that completely engulf your rucksack and make it impossible for somebody to use a knife to open your rucksack.

Don’t get into unlicensed minicabs. They are “just a stranger’s car”, as the Transport for London posters will constantly remind you as you diligently take the last tube home, despite the journey being twice as long underground. But above all, ensure that you’re aware of your surroundings. It is no point being paralytic and expecting people to protect you – if your friends aren’t there, you could have your face drawn on.

However a lot of things have been working against the tourism in Tunisia. The situations right now is that of a war. Lot of tourists are leaving the country in fear for their lives. All the flights going out of Tunisia are booked. And there are still people stuck in the country. Many European tour operators have cancelled trips to Tunis till the mid of February, while a lot of trips are routed to other tourist destination. All of this is due to a political chaos that began since the 2009 election.

For a country that depends heavily on tourism this is going to severely hit their economy. As many as 6000 tourist from Germany have cancelled their trip to Tunis and that’s just one country. There are so many tourists from around the world who are cancelling their trip. A lot of energy must be wasted in booking and cancelling the trip to Tunis in the last few days; I wonder if company like Enigin would have a better idea.

One thing is for sure, the country is not only going to be economically hit by the tourists that have cancelled their trips this month, but this is also going to create a negative publicity for Tunisia. And there is going to be a major decrease in the tourism industry even in the coming years. No one wants to go to a place which has a recent history of violence.
